Employees at Buzzi Unicem's Lonestar Quarry and Mill in Cape Girardeau, Mo., developed a mechanism that eliminates the need to manually handle raw mill liners. Working with 1/4-in. wear plates, maintenance men and their supervisor built a compact cart to transport the liners inside the roller mill. The wheels on the cart are angled to follow the contours of the inner bowl in the mill. A small electric hoist is used to lower the cart into the bowl area where the hoist is positioned to receive the mill liners, and a washer is welded to the liner so it can be lowered by the hoist onto the cart.
