For the first time, the presence of some upper Carboniferous and Permian marine deposits is reported from the Moesian Platform. The biostratigraphy of these deposits is based on a rich micropaleontological assemblage with foraminifers and conodonts. Paleoecological evidence is derived from the study of the micro- and macrofauna. Two juvenile paleoammonoid specimens (Propopanoceras, Medlicottia) from the Permian deposits are reported for the first time in Romania. The distribution of the litofacies, as determined by synsedimentary tectonics and magmatic activity, is represented in six time-slice sketches from Tournaisian to Permian.
