The final feature in a series on San Antonio, TX, USA-site of the 1TE 2009 Annual Meeting and Exhibit--focuses on a mechanism known as the corridor management team. Multi-agency regional cooperation is not necessarily unique, but San Antonio has been practicing it for more than 35 years to the benefit of regional mobility. Transportation, emergency response and law enforcement personnel who have immediate responsibilities for the planning and operations of the surface transportation network meet informally on a regular basis to identify current and upcoming issues and coordinate activities. As a result, strong personal relationships enable greater and timelier communications, negating problems before they occur or resolving problems of transportation operations without the need for higher management or political intervention.
