Current awareness of the Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) threat within the military community is at an all-time high, underlining just how well it has penetrated the armour of well-trained and equipped regular forces. The RCIED has provided the enemy with the consistent capability to cause death and injury, combined with the means of significantly demoralising regular forces. Defending against the RCIED has traditionally relied on providing the war fighter with force protection through the provision of appropriate equipment, as evidenced in two recent operational theatres. This equipment combines physical protection with electromagnetic spectrum swamping, as the best means of countering the threat.
