For more than five years the Swedish Armed Forces have been in a process of big changes. The Static, Cold War profile of a big territorial defence built on general conscription, a total defence concept and a national defence industry, with the aim of defending the country against invasion, is being rapidly replaced. The new network-based structure is much smaller but has good quality, is more flexible and is aimed at ongoing operations. It will have the ability to react quickly to upcoming crises, which means that military capabilities will be deployable in a national or coalition framework. During the Cold War period there was a most favoured sentence that stated the importance of a 'Swedish profile' in the development of new systems, of which you hear absolutely nothing today.
