In August, 2010, the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) in Qingdao, Shandong, celebrated its 60th anniversary. The delegation of the Zhirmunsky Institute of Marine Biology of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1MB FEB RAS) headed by its Director, Academician Andrey V. Adrianov, was invited to the celebration, as Soviet and Russian marine biologists are connected with IOCAS by years of joint work and friendly relationships. This publication reviews the history of the IOCAS and its cooperation with Russian institutes.
