There has been a second roundtable meeting of industry and the Australian authorities on 7 December 20071. The purpose of this meeting was to determine how Australia should respond to the emerging "patchwork" of RoHS-like regulations around the world. Work for the Australian authorities by Hyder indicates that most importers of electrical goods into Australia are or intend to move to EU-RoHS compliance any way - the key priority for industry is achieving consistency with EU-RoHS. The environmental/health rationale for extending beyond EU restrictions is seen to be weak.
