International Product Safety Week, held in November 2008, was particularly significant for Chinese authorities and toy manufacturers as it hosted the first EU-US-China summit on product safety, with a series of events and seminars for stakeholders and product safety specialists to boost tripartite co-operation of product safety measures in the toy supply chain. This follows the report published in June 2008 entitled "Evaluating Business Safety Measures in the Toy Supply Chain", compiled by European Consumer Affairs Commissioner Meglena Kuneva and independent experts as a result of the series of high profile recalls and notifications from the RAPEX-China alert system for dangerous products (Rapid Alert System for non-food consumer products) in 2007 which brought to the Commission's attention the fact that the P.R. China (including Hong Kong) is the country of origin for more than half (52% of 700) of notified products.
