It was with dismay that I read the article on SHP Online ('No Charges after boy crushed by tree', 24 February). In 2005, while walking through a National Trust park, eight-year-old Timothy Sutton was killed by a rotting beech tree, which was blown over in high winds. By refusing to comment on whether its decision to bring no charges was influenced by the prospect of attracting potential negative media publicity, with regard to 'over-excessive' health and safety rules, the HSE has made it appear as though this did influence it.
