Seventy one years ago, on a dirt strip of a rural farming settlement called Hertzelia; Messerschmitts, Spitfires and Mustangs took to the air to defend the new state of Israel. Israel's War of Independence was won in three phases, the second phase took place between 15-22 October 1948 when operation "Ten Pelages" was set into motion to dislodge the Egyptian army entrenched 30 minutes away from Tel Aviv, along the Ashdot Hebron road and the "Faluga pocket".
