I hope that readers will forgive me for once again using this editorial space for a personal comment. On 22 July Mike Stroud died. His name is probably unknown to many of you, but Mike was hugely influential in aviation publishing, having nurtured a very successful career in aviation. I was lucky enough to think of Mike as a friend, as an inspiration and as an occasional grumpy bugger, and for me he was a mentor and constant source of encouragement during my early years in publishing. His own career included spells with Miles, de Havilland, IATA, Hawker Siddeley and BAe. He was deeply involved in the Hunter, from market intelligence and PR aspects and, later, with the Harrier. His stories of test pilots ('One time, when I had Neville (Duke) in the car...'), kings ('... I met King Hussein a couple of times...') and aeroplanes were sublime, and his knowledge immense.
