摘要

The samples of AISI 410, martensitic stainless steel (MSS) were conventionally heat treated in diverse quenching environments in order to obtain three different microstructures; fine ferrite, fine and coarse martensite. Furthermore, laser surface treatment (LST) was done by pulsed Nd:YAG laser in order to compare the effect of short-term diffusion on hardness and wear properties of different microstructures. The microstructure, micro-hardness and wear properties of samples were investigated by means of a scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Vickers micro-hardness tester and pin on disc method respectively. The results showed that LST is an effective approach to improve the hardness and wear properties of the ferrite, despite the coarse and fine martensite phases.
