Shape-Controlled Synthesis of Prussian Blue Nanostructures and Their Properties

Prussian blue nanocubes and spherical assemblies have been synthesized selectively with variation of reaction temperature via a hydrothermal process. The samples were characterized using XRD, SEM, TEM, and UV-vis methods. Both the nanocubes and spherical assemblies have a narrow size distribution and a good dispersibility. UV-vis spectra show that the excitonic peaks of the nanocubes and spherical assemblies are at 683 nm and 674 nm, respectively. Cyclic voltammograms and the amperometric technique have been used to demonstrate a current-H_2O_2 concentration dependence for both the nanocubes and spherical assemblies. The shape-related properties of the latter are briefly explored. The possible formation mechanism of different shaped Prussian blue nanoparticles is discussed.
