摘要

British mathematician and logician George Boole, who discovered Boolean algebra and introduced a new branch of mathematics - now called Invariant Theory, was born 200 years ago. He was a self-taught mathematician. Boolean algebra is basic to the design of the electronic circuitry in everything we use. He was a genius who was self-taught and laid down foundations which set mathematics on a new path. In this article the life and contributions of George Boole have been discussed.
