摘要

Arsenic is a very common name in the modern world. Since discovery of its presence as a toxic substance in groundwater, the name 'arsenic' has become a matter of grave concern for the people living in the alluvial plains of Bangladesh and some parts of India and other countries. Millions of people are victims of arsenic toxicity. Before this phenomenal appearance of arsenic in our drinking water, this element was known only to chemists and geologists and to some extent to metallurgists. But if we look into the history we will find the emphatic presence of arsenic and its compounds in various turning points of human culture and history. It had been used both for good and bad purpose for several centuries. In our history, literature, and business arsenic was in existence with its all vices and virtues.
