摘要

Hairy root culture opens a new avenue in research and development of the economically important medicinal plant Plumbago indica. Development of an effective protocol for initiation and culture of hairy roots by A. rhizogenes infection enabling in vitro plumbagin synthesis at the level comparable to the natural system in one hand and more importantly regeneration of transformed plants (confirmed at molecular level) using transformed roots on the other constitute two independent cycles that complement each other to strengthen in vitro as well as ex vitro harvesting of plumbagin.
