摘要

The march of glorious 50 years since 1961, from the then Regional Research Laboratory to presently Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-North East Institute of Science and Technology, delivers a positive image in the area of geoenvironmental perspectives through R&D activities. The studies have provided significant environmental and societal inputs. Moreover, it helps to build strong coordination in the academic sphere through human resource development. The generated knowledgebase has given clear evidence on the impact of fluoride and arsenic contents in the water resources of NE-India, acute erosion problem on the famous river island Majuli and erosion and migration behavior of the rivers under mighty Brahmaputra river system with significant attributes to human population of the northeastern region of India. Generated knowledgebase will help to provide a platform in formulation of systematic management approaches to improve the socio-economic status and quality of life of the people in the NE-India region.
