摘要

Half of the Nobal Prize in Physics has been shared by Prof. Yoichiro Nambu for his discovery of the mechanism of spontaneous broken symmetry in subatomic physics, another half has been shared by Prof. Makuto Kobayashi and Prof. Toshihide Maskawa for their discovery of the origin of the broken symmetry which predicts the existence of at least three families of quarks in nautre. US citizen Nambu was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1921, obtained D.Sc 1952 at the University of Tokyo, is Harry Pratt Judson Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at Enrico Fermi Institute, University of Chicago. Kobayashi and Maskawa both are Japanese citizen. Born in 1944 in Nagoya, Japan, Kobayashi obtained Ph.D at Nagoya University and now Professor Emeritus at High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), Tsukuba, Japan. Born in 1940 and a Ph.D. (1967) at the Nagoya University, Japan, Maskawa is Professor Emeritus at Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics, and Professor at Kyoto Sangyo University, Japan. According to Nobel Commute, the trio of 2008's Nobel Laureates in Physics have "have presented theoretical insights that give us a deeper understanding of what happens far inside the tiniest building blocks of matter."
