摘要

In today's world of science and technology, criminals and terrorists are also equipped with the latest technology tools. Hence crime investigation has become more demanding. On this background of 'techno-crime scenario' forensic science laboratories obviously assumed a very crucial role to play. This paper covers the set up of forensic science laboratories in India. It also covers conventional forensic technology, emerging trends and latest technologies such as narco analysis, brain electrical oscillation signature profiling, lie-detector, cyber forensic, forensic clinical toxicology, etc. in forensic science laboratories. This paper has tried to touch on important topics like crime scene management, disaster management, concept of preventive forensic and critical infrastructure securities. Finally some national level important public cases solved by Maharashtra Forensic Science Laboratories are also described. Need for continuous upgradation of these forensic laboratories in infrastructure, technologies, man power and their knowledge, co-ordination of different agencies, training programs for investigating agencies and judicial officers, creation of public awareness in 'preventive forensic' etc are emphasized.
