摘要

Bonda is one of the most primitive tribes of India. Unlike other tribes, this is confined only to a few hills, which is named after them as Bonda hills and is located in Khairput block of Malkangiri district in Orissa. The tribal population in Bonda hills was only 5565 in the year 2000 and is confined to 32 villages of 2-gram panchayats namely Mudulipada and Andrahal under Mudulipada Police Station. The tribes still maintain their traditional dress constumes and live in their own style and keep drawing attention of the other world (Photograph 1).They are known by themselves as "Remo" which means, "man". Their origin and resemblance are not known. However, they belong to "Munda" Sub Group of Proto-Austrailoid Group. Modern civilization has not influenced them much and they have kept themselves from the mainstream because of their conservative approach. Sometimes they become violent and show their arrogance to the visitors. Their literacy percentage has been calculated to be as low as 7.8%.
