An analytical description using established bibliometric techniques of the New Journal of Physics (NJP) from its first issue in fanuary of 1999 to the December issue of 2009 is presented. Data was col lected from the NfP website and three other databases: INSPEC, the Web of Science Citation Index (SCI), and its fournal Citation Reports QCR). The results present the general characteristics of NJP, and it compares NJP with other similar physics journals. It also reports about authors' productivity, institutional affiliations of authors, NJP subject coverage, funding agencies, international scope of NJP, and its impact as a physics journal.
