Earthquakes are revealing just how deep the continents beneath our feet go. Scientists analyzed seismic waves from quakes that have rocked various regions of the world, including Antarctica, the Americas and Africa. Almost everywhere, patterns in these waves indicated a layer of partially melted material between 130 and 190 kilometers underground.
