摘要

This is a comprehensive research monograph reporting on the detailed investigation conducted as part of the EU-funded project 'Regional Trajectories to the Knowledge Economy: A Dynamic Approach', under the acronym EURODITE. Funded through the EU's 6th Framework Program for Research and Technological Development, EURODITE was an integrated project of five-year's duration involving a comparative market-based study across 20 countries and seven different industry sectors: food and drinks; biotechnology; information and communication technology; new media; knowledge-intensive business services; automotive; and tourism. The core focus was to examine how the three main components of the knowledge-value chain (exploration, examination and exploitation) in each sector have been transformed by the transition from centralised, top-down manufacturing to the dispersed, networked, co-operative markets of the global knowledge economy and how understanding these transformations can help build more informed policy in the EU.
