Sundial from the astronomical observatory, Jaipur, India: The Yantra Mandir (commonly known as the Jantar Mantar) is an astronomical observatory at Jaipur in Rajasthan, north-western India. The astronomical observatory at Jaipur in India contains historically significant collection of very large sundials and scientific instruments. It is one of the five such observatories in northern India built by the Maharajah Sawai Jai Singh II, who was greatly interested in both astronomy and astrology. The Jaipur observatory consists of a series of astronomical instruments, built by Jai Singh II in his new capital of Jaipur between 1727 and 1733.
