摘要

In order to cope with environmental concerns, it is important for the automobile industry to challenge the issue of vehicle weight reduction. CFRP is attracting much expectation in the market as one of the future lightweight composite materials. The Lexus LFA car body development project has given us the opportunity to understand some of the characteristics and application methods of CFRP as an automobile material. Meanwhile R&D of the CFRTS technology has already begun and it will be employed continuously mainly for outer panels and car cabin components. At the same time, the CFRTP technology is also expected to be employed for fabricating structural parts especially for mass production vehicles, by optimally using its superior characteristics to enhance productivity and for improving impact absorption, etc. The future progress of R&D laboratories worldwide and their mutually beneficial collaborations are expected to help support the dissemination of CFRPs throughout the automobile industry.
