For software vendors, a critical stage of the product development cycle is a careful definition of user requirements to ensure the finished product will have the appropriate feature set. To reduce development time, nonessential but requested features are often eliminated. Consequently, the finished product will meet the requirements of most users, but not the requirements of all users. For chromatography data system users, the problem is especially critical since each organization has different procedures for acquiring, processing, and reporting chro-matographic analytical results.
