The Mk38 Mod 2 Stabilized Minor Caliber Gun is a derivative of the Typhoon Weapon System developed by BAE Systems' program partner, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd., Haifa, Israel. It is designed for ship self-protection and can be integrated into ship classes ranging from patrol craft to platform designs of more than 50 tons displacement. The main weapon is the M242 Bushmaster 25mm Chain Gun, an auto cannon with a 2.5-kilometer range and selectable rates of fire. The Mk38 incorporates the Toplite electro-optical fire-control system to engage targets during day, night and in all weather conditions. The remote operation console is in the Combat Information Center or another protected area of the ship structure.
