Database vendors employ a variety of means to develop the products they offer and the approaches they take for designing the customer experience. Continuous improvement is their guiding principle, tweaking the technology to allow a customer to do something previously not possible — or, at least, not obvious. Some vendors accomplish this organically, using existing technology and staff to implement improvements; others look externally, acquiring whole new companies just to apply advanced technology to the new parent's existing content.
