Southampton Master Mariners Club played host to a joint meeting with the Solent Branch. The speaker, Captain Ivor Salter, MSc, is Captain of the Master Mariners Club. He is a Senior Lecturer at Warsash Maritime Academy and has served as Master and has been superintendent for both chemical and oil tankers. Rather than looking at the technical procedures for entering enclosed spaces, Captain Salter concentrated on the human factor; the reasons for entering an exposed space, and the consequences of doing so.
