To emphasise the importance of the role of the company in the effective implementation of the ISM Code IMO's Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) has approved a circular (MSC-MEPC.7/Circ.5). These establish the basic principles for: ⅰ. developing and reviewing the safety management system by a company; ⅱ. the role of the Designated Person under the ISM Code; ⅲ. reporting and analysing of nonconformities, observations, accidents and hazardous occurrences (including near-misses); and iv. performing internal audits and management reviews.
