Optical fibers are being installed in every part of the world. In the mean-while, direct core monitoring fusion splicers are being used in various appli-cations and environments, such as trunk line work, access line work and optical component assembly plants. Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has developed a new fusion splicer, Type-71C, as a successor to the conventional model Type-39.
