In the construction of optical fiber networks, such as FTTx, low capital investment and easy operation are becoming increasingly important. Accordingly, the technical trend in connecting fibers has shifted from fusion splicing to the use of field assembling connectors, to which mechanical splice technology is applied. For video transmission and other complex systems, however, reliable splicing techniques which can maintain low optical return loss are still required. For this reason, angled end faces have been widely used as an effective way of reducing the return loss of the optical fiber connectors. We have already lined up "Quick-SC" series, field assembling connectors to which the angled end face technique is applied. This time, we have extended this technique to a cleaver for field assembly and have released an angled fiber cleaver "SE-AFC-08." This cleaver is expected to be used for construction in which technical reliability and productivity are required.
