The development of a single carbon fiber electrode has been investigated as a potential non-enzymatic sensor capable of quantifying peroxide. Electrodeposition of palladium is shown to create nanostructured deposits with a nanoneedle and nano-rod like morphology. The electrode modification is shown to be facile, and the resulting sensors exhibit a high sensitivity toward the oxidation ($388~mu ext{A} cdot {mathrm {mM}}^{-1} cdot {mathrm {cm}}^{-2}$) and the reduction of peroxide. Interference from uric acid has been investigated, and the use of Nafion shown to greatly reduce its influence without unduly compromising the sensitivity of the sensors toward peroxide.
