The Subsea Solutions Alliance, comprising All-Sea Enterprises, Miami Diver Inc and Trident BV, has successfully completed the first underwater replacement of B+V Simplex outboard stern seals on Holland America Line's (HAL) 33,933 gt cruise vessel Noordam. The work was performed without interruption of the vessel's cruise schedule during five consecutive port calls in the Caribbean. HAL contacted alliance member Miami Diver in search of an alternative solution to an unscheduled drydocking and cancellation of a week-long cruise. After reviewing the stern seal history and recent tail-shaft wear readings with Blohm+Voss, it was determined that this seal would be a good candidate for underwater replacement using the Alliance's HERO (Habitat Environment Repair Option) underwater dry stern seal replacement system.
