From 1975 to 1996, Professor Joe W. Johnson (1975-1988) and Professor Robert L. Wiegel (1988-1996) provided editorial direction for 80 issues of Shore & Beach, with one double issue in 1987 that was a tribute issue to Morrough P. O'Brien and included a biographical sketch of O'Brien by Robert L. Wiegel. They expanded the publication from twice a year, to thrice, and then to quarterly issues. And, during the Johnson-Wiegel years, many of the fundamental aspects of Shore & Beach were either established or strengthened. Morrough P. O'Brien was president of ASBPA during the early part of Johnson's editorship and Orville T. Magoon was president (1983-1994) during most of Wiegel's editorship.
