I first met Billy Edge when I was a graduate student, working with Margery Overton and John Fisher at North Carolina State University. Dr. Edge was a long-time friend of Dr. Fisher, and I think 1 met him at one of the International Conferences on Coastal Engineering -the first one of those I was privileged to go to was in Orlando in 1996 (I vividly remember returning to the aftermath of Hurricane Fran in Raleigh). Dr. Edge has now joined the faculty at NC State, and I am looking forward to working with him next semester when I will be teaching a class there as an adjunct. I caught up with him via phone at his office in Raleigh as the whirlwind of the fall semester was coming to a close, to ask a few questions. Dr. Edge won the O'Brien Award in 1993.
