摘要

Airborne lidar surveys of the northern North Carolina and southern Virginia coasts were conducted before and after the landfall of Hurricane Isabel. Comparisons of the surveys from two example areas show the destruction of coastal dunes and the buildings that the dunes protected. Topographic lidar data should prove useful in quantifying hurricane damage to man-made structures as well as in quantifying coastal change such as beach and dune erosion.
