Over the last several years, a number of major hurricanes have seriously impacted the Atlantic coast. In addition to wind-damage, hurricane induced storm surge and high waves can cause major morphologic change along the coast, impact coastal infrastructure and also prove fatal. In addition to storm intensity, the size, speed, and landfall location relative to the storm center all play a significant role in determining the magnitude of impact, surge elevation, and wave intensity.
