Mexico stands out in the history of athletics as the venue of Bob Beamon's legendary Olympic long jump record at the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City in 1968, More than a quarter of a century later, Mexico has witnessed another world record leap. Between the mainland and the lower Californian peninsula that is also part of Mexico (Baja California), Siemens has constructed a radio relay link of 160 km over water, making it the longest radio relay hop in the world to use digital broadband technology - in spite of the extremely unfavorable environmental conditions that affect radio transmission.
