With the current budget constraints, it might seem that one of the first items the U.S. Defense Department would have to sacrifice would be education. However, with the quickly evolving and expanding cyberspace domain, that must not be an option. At the Kaiserslautern Chapter in Germany, an answer to this issue has been brewing for the past year. 1st Lt. Robert M. Lee, USAF, a Young AFCEAN and member of the chapter, began teaching free cybersecurity-related classes in April 2012, and he hosted a Capture the Flag event at the June Tech Expo that year. 1st Lt. Lee named this initiative hackINT, which stands for "Hacking Intelligence," and highlighted it as a new crowdsourced and grassroots approach to cybersecurity education. The hackINT program teaches skills in the areas of defense, intelligence, forensics and hacking.
