The U.S. government violated the law in postponing an Obama-era federalrnenergy valuation reform rule, a federal judge wrote Aug. 30.rnPostponing the effectiveness of the Consolidated Federal Oil & Gas andrnFederal & Indian Coal Valuation Reform rule was unlawful, U.S. MagistraternJudge Elizabeth Laporte wrote. The Aug. 30 order declares the postponementrnwas contrary to law but does not vacate the postponement of the rule becausernof concerns it would be disruptive as companies would only have to complyrnfor a few days before a rule repealing the reform would go into place.
