Cet article est un commentaire d'une recherche primaire menée en 2014 sur le secteur des PME au Brésil. Cette recherche a pour but de fournir de larges recommandations de politiques pour le développement de MPME [microentreprises et PME] et l'engagement auprès de ces dernières en Jamaïque et dans la CARICOM. L'objectif principal de la recherche vise à identifier les meilleurs pratiques dans le secteur brésilien des PME, lesquelles pourraient être adaptées au contexte de la CARICOM. Il s'agit d'un effort pour stimuler les discussions et la recherche future dans ce domaine. Cet article examine brièvement deux des plus grandes organisations non-gouvernementales du Brésil (SEBRAE et CNI) qui sont centrées sur l'engagement et le développement des PME. Il identifie ensuite les enseignements que l'on peut transférer au contexte caribéen. L'article souligne également certains défis rencontrés par la région des Caraïbes en développant le secteur des MPME. Enfin, il se fonde sur les enseignements tirés de l'expérience brésilienne pour faire des recommandations sur la direction à prendre pour la région malgré les défis rencontrés.%This article is a commentary on primary research conducted in 2014 on the SME sector in Brazil. Its purpose is to provide broad policy recommendations for MSME development and engagement in Jamaica and CARICOM. The main aim of the research is to identify best practices within the Brazilian SME sector which can be adapted to the CARICOM context. This is in an effort to stimulate discussions and future research within the area. The article briefly examines two of the largest nongovernmental organizations in Brazil (SEBRAE and CN1) which focus on SME engagement and development. It then identifies the lessons which can be transferred to the Caribbean context. The article also outlines some challenges faced by the Caribbean region in developing the MSME sector. Finally, it draws upon the lessons learned from Brazil to make recommendations as to the way forward for the region in spite of the challenges.
