Packaged Vacations is a useful addition to Caribbean tourism scholarship, not least because the Anglophone Caribbean usually tends to receive primacy when tourism scholars speak about "Caribbean tourism". The book provides an historical account of the growth and development of tourism in four of the major Spanish Caribbean tourism spaces —Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. In many ways, Ward's chronicle either implicitly or explicitly highlights the Achilles heel associated with tourism development in the Caribbean.
