摘要

Since the 1930s studies of sexuality in the Caribbean have focused on heterosexuality in terms of male promiscuity and female fidelity (Kempadoo 2003). The essays in this collection address the complexity of gender and sexual identities in the Caribbean region today. Each paper increases the reader's awareness of the psychological and social regulation of sexual self concepts as well as experiences. In Jamaica this understanding is largely influenced by debates about homophobia, dancehall culture, sex work, violence and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The collection of papers in this volume explore risk and vulnerability while celebrating sexual diversity from the standpoints of sexually marginalized groups. The authors question heteronormative notions of sexuality evident in the legislation and some discriminatory social policies that place lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in Jamaica at a disadvantage.
