摘要

The first five articles in this issue of Social and Economic Studies came out of a conference held by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social & Economic Studies (SALISES), St. Augustine, in March 2010. The theme of the conference was Turmoil and turbulence in small developing states: Going beyond survival. The conference was attended by national, regional and international scholars from the policy, practice and research communities, and featured many opportunities for dialogue on critical issues facing the Caribbean region, primarily the consequences of a global financial and economic meltdown of unprecedented proportions.
