摘要

This paper examines the links between political leadership and development in Jamaica over recent decades. The paper concludes that political leaders have the ability to influence variables that have an impact on development. Jamaica's development experience, and that of other countries both within and outside the Caribbean, illustrates the capacity of political leaders to both enhance, and detract from, a country's development prospects. The analysis suggests that the intellectual influences on political leaders may play a role in determining the policies they promote.
