This paper analyses the effects of the oil price shocks on gasoline prices in the non-oil- producing economy of Curaqao. The repeated international oil price increases combined with the domestic price structure of oil-related products impose a large and increasing cost on the domestic economy. This study shows that the current price-setting mechanism of Curacao's oil derivatives provides the wrong price signal and distorts the market.
