摘要

This paper looks at the requirements for implementation of the national strategic plan for expanded response to HIV/AIDS in Trinidad and Tobago and positions the availability of programme data as a critical support to the success of the plan. Accordingly, a case is made for a national HIV/AIDS database. The current infrastructure for HIV/AIDS statistics in Trinidad and Tobago is reviewed and major areas of weakness are identified. The major deficiencies considered in this paper relate to understatement of key data; duplication of test results; differences in published data; delays in reporting data; lack of coordination of data activities; periodicity problems; resource limitations and the absence of a supporting social sector database.
