Regarding the question of academic freedom within the institutional arrangements of universities, I agree with the view put forth in this volume by Markus Baumanns that we do not experience the same kind of external threats to academic freedom, the freedom of teaching and research as those faced by the United States (described in this volume by Jonathan Cole). [...] part of the responsibility that accompanies academic freedom is maintaining sufficient communication between specialists to let those who teach in a faculty appear to the students and the research community as a coherent group. In a professional school the professors from various disciplines - sociology, political science, law, and economics - have to be more integrated as a group in order to be able to deliver the requisite integrated product.
