摘要

Greek scholar Benjamin Jowett put it well: 'I have always felt a certain horror of political economists, since I heard one of them say that he feared the famine of 1848 in Ireland would not kill more than a million people, and that would scarcely be enough to do much good.' Since I began editorializing in these pages in 1999, I've found it interesting to see which essays bring in significant responses from our readers and which go uncontested. Consistently, when I delve into the way humans interact in the workplace and the metaphysical motivations that swirl around us, you write me back, sharing your stories and opinions. Conversely, industry analyses generate fewer reflections. As always, the 'soft' stuff attracts us—but is that so bad?
